Boardwise vs OnBoard · $200/month

Boardwise vs OnBoard: simpler, cheaper, built for the same buyer

OnBoard (Passageways) is one of the closest direct competitors to Boardwise — both target mid-market organizations and serve the corporate secretary as the primary buyer. The differences are pricing transparency, authentication strength, and how the contract works.

Flat $200/month. No annual contract. We handle migration — no charge until your OnBoard contract ends.

A fair comparison

OnBoard is a real product with thousands of customers, strong reviews, and a long track record. If you are reading this page, you are likely choosing between two credible options. Here is where they differ and where each one fits.

Where Boardwise wins

Three concrete differences that matter when the corporate secretary is the buyer.

Published price, no quote dance

Boardwise is $200 per month, flat. The price is on the website. OnBoard publishes tier names but not numbers — every conversation starts with a sales call. If pricing transparency matters to your CFO or board, that gap is real.

Passkey by default

Every Boardwise account is secured with a passkey: biometrics (Face ID, Touch ID) or a hardware security key. OnBoard's published auth is password plus MFA, with enterprise SSO on appropriate tiers. Both are reasonable; passkeys are categorically stronger and remove the password entirely.

Monthly billing, cancel anytime

Boardwise has no annual contract and no termination penalty. Industry pricing reports describe OnBoard as annual-contract-based with multi-year commitments common. If you are signing a multi-year agreement, the lock-in is part of the deal.

Cryptographic audit trail on every consent — included, not a Premium feature

In Boardwise, every written consent is signed using passkey authentication and produces a downloadable audit package with a SHA-256 integrity digest. That is the standard of proof a regulator or opposing counsel will ask for in a due-diligence process. It ships on the $200/month plan — there is no "Premium" or "Ultimate" version of it.

OnBoard's eSignature and voting capabilities sit in the Premium tier per their published feature breakdown, and integrate with DocuSign as an add-on. Equivalent capability, gated by tier.

Where OnBoard might be the better fit

If any of these matter to you, OnBoard is a credible answer.

  • You want native Microsoft 365 and Zoom integration in the portal. OnBoard ships with M365 and Zoom integrations on appropriate tiers. Boardwise does not currently offer those.
  • You need D&O questionnaires, skills tracking, or board assessments at the highest tier. OnBoard's Ultimate plan includes these. Boardwise offers surveys and COI declarations; we do not currently offer a structured skills matrix or D&O questionnaire workflow.
  • You value a long incumbent track record. Passageways has been in this market for over a decade with more than 6,000 customer organizations and 600+ G2 reviews. If "years in market" is a weighted criterion in your evaluation, that is a real advantage.
  • You want a tier-based feature menu rather than one plan. If your board explicitly does not want certain features and wants to pay less for a stripped-down portal, OnBoard's Essentials tier may suit that preference. Boardwise ships every feature on a single plan.

Switching from OnBoard

We handle the migration end-to-end. You do not need to export anything, map anything, or reconstruct your board structure. We do it with you — and you do not pay us until your OnBoard contract ends.

1
Intro call

We understand your current OnBoard setup: boards, committees, document organization, access controls.

2
We map your structure

Boards, committees, members, roles, and folder hierarchy replicated exactly.

3
We migrate your documents

Historical board books, meeting materials, minutes, and resolutions — exported from OnBoard, transferred, and organized in Boardwise.

4
Optional parallel run

Keep OnBoard live until your contract expires. No forced cutover.

5
Go live on your board calendar

We align launch to your meeting cycle.

The "no double-paying" guarantee

You are paying OnBoard until your contract ends. We are not going to charge you on top of that. Boardwise billing starts when your OnBoard contract expires — or whenever you cut over, whichever comes first.

Most organizations evaluate Boardwise in parallel for a quarter or two, then switch when the renewal date arrives.

Common questions

What corporate secretaries actually ask when comparing Boardwise and OnBoard.

Boardwise is $200 per month, flat, for the entire organization — unlimited board members and committees, no per-seat fees, no setup fees, no annual contract. OnBoard publishes three plan tiers (Essentials, Premium, Ultimate) but not specific prices; you have to request a demo for a custom quote. Many features Boardwise includes by default (eSignatures, surveys, voting) sit in OnBoard's Premium tier.

OnBoard's published authentication options are MFA and enterprise SSO (Okta, OneLogin, Azure AD). Passkey (WebAuthn) is not documented on their public security pages as of our last review. Boardwise ships passkey authentication on every account by default — biometrics or hardware security key, no password.

OnBoard's pricing model is not publicly disclosed beyond tier names; published board-portal-industry comparisons describe it as annual-contract based, with multi-year discounts common. Boardwise has no annual contract — pay $200/month, cancel anytime.

We handle migration end-to-end: boards, committees, members, documents, and folder hierarchy. We do not charge until your existing OnBoard contract ends. Most organizations run both systems in parallel for a quarter before cutting over on a meeting-cycle boundary.

Boardwise covers the core board-portal workflows: meetings, agendas, minutes, document distribution, annotations, written consents, COI declarations, surveys, audit logs, retention policies, and multi-board single sign-on. We do not currently offer native Microsoft 365 or Zoom integration, structured D&O questionnaires, or skills-matrix tracking — features that sit in OnBoard's higher tiers. If those are central to your evaluation, OnBoard's Ultimate plan is the more complete answer.
