Boardwise vs Govenda · $200/month

Boardwise vs Govenda: cleaner UI, lower price, independent roadmap

Govenda — originally BoardBookit — was a credible mid-market board portal. In May 2024 it was acquired by OnBoard (Passageways). If you are evaluating Govenda today, you are evaluating OnBoard's portfolio. Boardwise is the independent alternative: flat $200 per month, published pricing, passkey authentication, and a roadmap that is not being integrated into someone else's.

Independent. Flat-rate. Published price. Migration handled — no charge until your Govenda contract ends.

A fair comparison

Govenda has 600+ customer organizations, a real AI product (Gabii), and a strong customer-support reputation. The product is not going away. The question worth asking, especially at renewal time, is whether the company you signed with in 2022 is the same company you would sign with in 2026 — and whether the pricing model has held.

Where Boardwise wins

Three places we are a more sensible fit for a mid-market board than Govenda today.

Independent roadmap

Boardwise is independently held. Govenda is mid-integration into OnBoard following the May 2024 acquisition. Aprio — a competitor, but a third-party voice — explicitly excluded Govenda from its 2026 pricing study, citing "product roadmap uncertainty for existing users." If your board is renewing, that uncertainty is worth weighing.

Published pricing, no tier surprises

Boardwise is $200 per month, flat, on the website. Govenda's pricing is quote-only; customers in public Capterra reviews have noted that the original "one tier, one price" model gave way to tiered pricing and add-ons for AI features and integrations. Aprio's analysis confirms the add-on shift.

Passkey-default authentication

Every Boardwise account is secured with a passkey. Govenda's published authentication is 2FA, SSO (e.g., Okta), and biometric login on mobile — solid, but built around a password-based primary. Passkeys remove the password entirely.

Cryptographic audit trail on every consent

Every Boardwise written consent produces a downloadable audit package with a SHA-256 integrity digest, tying the signature, the signer's passkey, and the final document together. Govenda has voting and eSignature workflows — useful, but documented as workflow rather than as a cryptographic governance record.

Where Govenda might be the better fit

If any of these matter to your evaluation, Govenda is a real answer.

  • You need D&O questionnaires and skills-matrix tracking. Govenda's D&O Suite and Gabii Charters are real, established modules. Boardwise offers COI declarations and surveys; we do not currently offer a structured D&O questionnaire or skills-tracking workflow.
  • You want in-browser Microsoft 365 co-editing of board documents. Govenda markets itself as "the first Microsoft-enabled board portal" with synchronous co-editing. Boardwise does not offer this.
  • You want shipped AI features today. Govenda's Gabii suite (AI minutes, summaries, charter compliance) was launched in 2023 and is in active use. Boardwise does not currently offer AI features.
  • You value 24/7 phone support including direct access to product managers. Govenda's customer service reputation is consistently strong across G2 and Capterra. Boardwise also offers direct access to the team, but the support model is different.

Common questions

Govenda — originally BoardBookit, rebranded in 2021 — was acquired by OnBoard (Passageways) on May 23, 2024. Passageways is itself a portfolio company of JMI Equity. OnBoard's CEO publicly framed the integration as "business as usual"; Aprio Board Portal — a third-party voice — has flagged "product roadmap uncertainty for existing users" and excluded Govenda from its 2026 pricing study.

Boardwise is $200 per month, flat, published on the website. Govenda's pricing is quote-only. The historical model was flat-rate-per-organization with unlimited users, but Aprio's analysis and Capterra reviewers report that add-on fees for AI features and integrations have been introduced. Existing Govenda customers have publicly noted mid-contract tier changes.

Govenda's published authentication options are 2FA, SSO (e.g., Okta), and biometric login on mobile. Passkey (WebAuthn / FIDO2) is not documented on Govenda's security page. Boardwise ships passkey authentication on every account by default.

Not today. Govenda's Gabii suite (Minutes, Summaries, Charters, voice interface) was launched in 2023 and is shipping. Boardwise does not currently offer AI features. If AI-assisted minute drafting is central to your evaluation, Govenda's Gabii suite — or OnBoard's combined AI roadmap — is the more complete answer.

We handle migration end-to-end: boards, committees, members, documents, and folder hierarchy. We do not charge until your existing Govenda contract ends. If you are weighing whether to renew with Govenda given the OnBoard acquisition uncertainty, evaluating Boardwise in parallel costs you nothing.
