Boardwise vs Boardable · $200/month

Boardwise vs Boardable: same simplicity, stronger evidence trail

Boardable is a clean, easy-to-use board portal that works well for small volunteer boards. If your board is growing and the records start to matter — to an auditor, a regulator, or counsel — the per-seat pricing and the audit posture are worth a fresh look.

Flat $200/month for unlimited users. Passkey authentication. SHA-256 audit package on every consent.

A fair comparison

Boardable has earned its reputation: it is simple, friendly, and a perfectly fine choice for a six-person volunteer nonprofit board. The questions are about what happens when the board grows past ten people, when an audit notices the records, and when a director's iPad gets stolen.

Where Boardwise wins

The four places where the difference matters most once a board grows past a handful of directors.

Per-seat math flips quickly

Boardable's entry tier is attractive at small headcounts. But the model is per-user, billed annually — every administrator, committee member, and observer adds cost.

At fifteen seats on Boardable Professional ($29.99/user/month), the annual bill is roughly $5,400. Boardwise is $2,400 flat with no per-seat ceiling. The crossover is around the eight-to-ten-user mark.

Passkey authentication, not magic links

Boardable's documented sign-in options are Google, Microsoft, or LinkedIn SSO, plus passwordless email magic links and optional 2FA. Magic links are convenient but only as strong as the director's email account.

Boardwise uses passkeys by default. The credential lives on the device's secure enclave (Face ID, Touch ID) or a hardware key. There is no email link to intercept and no password to phish.

A consent you can prove was not altered

Every written consent signed in Boardwise produces a downloadable audit package containing a SHA-256 integrity digest. If the document is altered after signing, the hash will not match. The signature, the signer's passkey, and the final document are cryptographically tied together.

Boardable offers eSignatures in its Professional+ tier, marketed as workflow convenience rather than a cryptographic governance record.

Immutable, append-only audit log

Boardwise's audit log records every view, download, edit, deletion, and permission change in real time. It cannot be altered by users.

Boardable's security documentation describes document audit logs captured "every five minutes," exportable as CSV. That is a reasonable record for casual review; it is not the standard a regulator or opposing counsel asks for when the question is "prove this resolution was not altered."

Where Boardable might be the better fit

If any of these describe your board, Boardable is a credible choice.

  • You are a six-to-eight-person all-volunteer nonprofit board with very small budgets. Boardable's Essentials tier comes in under $1,300 a year for that profile. Boardwise's $2,400 flat is the better deal at ten directors; at six it is closer.
  • You want AI-drafted minutes and meeting summaries today. Boardable shipped engagement dashboards and AI meeting tools in their Fall 2025 release, gated to the Professional+ tier. Boardwise does not currently offer AI minute drafting.
  • You want integrated video conferencing inside the portal. Boardable Video is part of Professional+. Boardwise integrates with your existing meeting tools rather than running its own.
  • Customer support is a top criterion and a phone-friendly support team matters. Boardable's customer service has consistently strong reviews in the nonprofit segment. Boardwise's support is direct access to the people who built the product — different model, neither obviously better for every team.

Common questions

Boardwise is $200 per month, flat, for unlimited users. Boardable is per-user-per-month, billed annually: Essentials at $20.99, Professional at $29.99, and Professional+ at $35.99 per user per month. A 15-person board on Boardable Professional is approximately $5,400 per year versus Boardwise's $2,400 flat. The per-seat model means every committee member, observer, and administrator added to the platform increases the bill.

Boardable's published authentication options are SSO via Google, Microsoft, and LinkedIn, plus passwordless email magic links and optional MFA. Passkey (WebAuthn) is not documented on Boardable's security pages. Boardwise ships passkey authentication on every account by default — biometrics (Face ID, Touch ID) or hardware security key.

Boardable's document audit logs are captured every five minutes per their security documentation, exportable as CSV. Boardwise produces an immutable, append-only audit log in real time and generates a downloadable audit package with a SHA-256 integrity digest for every written consent — a cryptographic record that ties the signature, the signer's passkey, and the final document together. Both are real audit features; only one is designed to stand up to a regulator asking "how do you know this document was not altered after signing."

Not yet. Boardable shipped AI minutes, summaries, and engagement dashboards in their Fall 2025 release, gated to Professional+ ($35.99/user/month). If AI-assisted minute drafting is a must-have for your evaluation today, Boardable's top tier is a real answer. If audit integrity and per-seat economics matter more, Boardwise is the more sensible choice.

We handle migration end-to-end: boards, committees, members, documents, and folder hierarchy. We do not charge until your existing Boardable subscription ends. One operational note: Boardable requires 30 days' written notice before annual renewal, so plan the cutover window accordingly.
